Removing The Noise

lifestyle Mar 23, 2019

"How you do one thing is how you do everything."

In the last sauce, I spoke about focus towards the end of the knowledge bomb. If you did not read it, I spoke about how I cleared out some of the noise in my life. I cleared my space by cleaning and throwing away things that I have not used in the last 6 months. I cleared out all of the crap email subscriptions I never wanted to subscribe to in the first place (I highly recommend using the unroll.me app to unsubscribe quickly). I got out of the old group chats I was in that blew up my phone 24/7. I turned off all notifications on my phone (besides text/call). I organized almost everything in my life including my phone (peep below). How you do one thing is how you do everything. If your entire environment is scattered and disorganized, your business, finances, and life will likely be too.

Group all of your other apps on the next page and just use the search bar whenever you need one (just slide your finger down). Seriously, looking at a clean, simple phone has helped a ton.
"In order to say yes, you must be able to first say no."

Another major distractor, especially for entrepreneurs, is "shiny object syndrome". This is when you see other people do well in something, so you alter your focus. I have done this and let me tell you, it is the fastest way to get nothing accomplished. Too many people are searching for the gold, that they miss the silver lining. If you are building a side hustle or trying to learn a new skill, let yourself focus. You cannot jump around from thing to thing just because another human made it look like a home run. Make a plan and stick with it for at minimum, 70 days (the time it takes to build a habit.
I get presented a different way to make money almost every single day. Just while typing this I had a friend ask to do affiliate marketing with them. 9 months ago I would've said yes. Today, I know in order to say yes, I first have to say no. Get comfortable with saying no. You need to focus on your life, your plan, and your goals before you can afford to help others and allocate your energy in different areas.

If you are interested in building a new habit, I highly recommend reading this book. Habits are what will determine the level of success you have in anything.

"It's not that I don't care what other people think about me, it's just that I value my opinion more than everyone else combined."

While my environment and "shiny object syndrome" have had huge impacts on my level of productivity, there is one thing that has far exceeded everything in regards to my happiness and ultimately my success and production. That one thing is caring what other people think.

If you actually think about how many things we do because of what other people think, it is unbelievable. Are you in that shit job because that is what will make your parents proud? Or maybe that is what you think the definition of success is in the eyes of society. Have you delayed trying something new because you are scared of judgment from others if you fail? Did you buy that new car because you wanted to look "successful" in the perception of others? Did you not go talk to that girl/guy you have a crush on because you are scared of rejection in front of others and are scared of the damage it will have on your ego?

Watch my favorite 60-second Garyvee video below about fear from judgment from others:

Fuck Fear

I want you to start thinking about your actions today and challenge yourself to ask why. Why are you doing what you are doing? When I started doing this, I found that SO many of my decisions every day were made because I cared too much about what other people thought of the life I was living. I went to a job I didn't like for people to think I was successful, I bought bottles at the club to show off and would blow money on things I didn't need to impress people. All of those dumb decisions were made because I wanted to inflate my ego.

The desire to impress and inflate your ego will be the reason you never reach financial independence. We as humans make over 95% of our decisions based on emotion. You need to get to a point where you are making logical decisions that will improve your future if you want to be happy and better your financial future.

So, how do you stop making decisions that inflate your ego? The need to impress others is a reflection of insecurities. How do you get rid of insecurities? You own the very traits in which you are insecure about.

Believe it or not, we all possess every trait (even the seemingly unappealing ones). It is just a matter of seeing when, how and in front of who that we have displayed the traits. I have done this by filling out the spreadsheet below:

Owning The Traits
Click "file", "make a copy" in order to edit the spreadsheet. Also, hover over the cells in black to better understand the exercise.

Once you own all of the traits, you won't have to impress, appease or convince someone that you are something you are not. In fact, this is so powerful, that if done correctly, you will take nothing personally. When someone calls me lazy, dumb or a loser, I can agree with them. I have been those things. But I have also been productive, intelligent and won a lot of things. No slander of any kind affects me or alters my actions. I hope you can get to that place as well because it is truly liberating.

This may be one of the most important pieces of content I share with you. If you can make this mindset shift, not only will you be in a way better spot financially, but you will be a much happier person. When you start taking action because YOU actually want to do it for YOU, good things happen.

If you want your life to change, you have to change.

How does change occur?

With action.

Take action on this newsletter. You will thank yourself later.

Have a safe Halloween!

See you next Friday!
